Both the Longmont Times Call and the Boulder Daily Camera have articles on the bargaining crisis in St. Vrain and both are worth a read. It seems both papers see through the ridiculous claims of offers exceeding 9% from the board. What is really at issue? We propose a 3% increase to base and the reinstatement of the lost step for those teachers impacted. The board wants to postpone compensation for the lost step till the end of a teachers career and offer 2.37% on base OR 1.5% on base and a ONE TIME stipend of 1.5% which would have the impact of a paycut next year on family budgets. For SVVEA this is about the dignity and respect for our profession and doing the right thing. The SVVEA poposal is sustainable, sensible, based on a promise (in writing no less) and long overdue. Stay tuned to our blog for up to date information!
Great. We need more public (and more detailed, too) refuting of the district’s offers. I think it’s easy to get bogged down in all the details. We need to keep spelling out why their seemingly amazing offer (9%!!) is actually a slap in the face.
